How It Started
The idea hit me in 2022.
I was working night shifts at the hospital, doing everything I could to manage stress and stay healthy. I’d been following a ketogenic diet since 2018 and was getting deeper into fasting. During my shifts I stuck to water, black coffee, and gum....lots of it.
I loved gum, but I knew it was packed with artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, and plastic. I couldn’t shake the feeling that it might be quietly derailing the metabolic benefits of my fast.
I started searching for a gum that used allulose, a rare and fascinating natural sugar that’s easy on the gut and potentially good for you. A sugar that could complement my routine rather than compromise it. But there was nothing out there and the idea got shelved.
Years passed with new jobs, growing kids, and graduate school. Like most ideas, this one got buried under everything else.
Fast forward to 2025
I was still chewing the same gum and still frustrated. I wanted something better, something that aligned with the way I was trying to live and raise my family. I began to wonder: If I was looking for this... maybe other people were too.
Driving my 9-year-old to school one morning, we started talking about it. Between giggles, sing-alongs, and early traffic, we decided: Let’s make gum.
My wife, the heartbeat of our home and the quiet co-visionary behind RARE Gum, was instantly on board. She offered constant encouragement and kept the mission grounded in what mattered most: using clean, simple ingredients rooted in tradition.
Together, we started building from the ground up. And we didn’t do it alone.
Our family became the foundation. My dad (the retired pharmacist) and my mom (the entrepreneur) brought wisdom, humor, and experience to the process. Siblings, in-laws, friends, and kids all stepped in to support and help shape what RARE Gum would become. From testing early batches to offering unfiltered feedback, everyone brought their own voice and values to the table.
Now it’s time for us to share our gum with you.
